THE PLANET
The planet, though humanly undiscovered and uncharted before the crash-landing of the Hyperion, has many qualities similar to Earth; beaches where the water splashes up on the sandy shore, grassy fields wave in the wind, jungles holding sounds of the ecosystem, and heavy mountains having secrets of their own.
With the abundance of nature and a highly complex ecosystem, this planet could be considered a “beautiful island” in space. The planet has housed sentiment species for millions of years, but has also claimed a number of shipwrecks from time to time – bringing a variety of guests who have either thrived or died with the planet.
There are a number of continents that are isolated from each other by deep blue oceans. The Hyperion itself crash-landed by a river in the middle of a small continent, about 300,533 square miles, and around 27 miles from the nearest shoreline. From time-to-time minor earthquakes are bound to occur, volcanic activity still occurs on at a neighboring continent, daily showers occurring in the rainforest, and seasonal tsunamis hold vibrancy in the coastlines.
Surrounded by a number of moons, the planet relies on their sun for the existence of life. Being the fifth planet from the sun, days are usually 36 hours long – which gives the colonists a recommended 12 hours of daily sleep, though some do not follow this recommendation. As far as climate goes, it has a mild and temperate maritime. For the most part, the planet does not have a large temperature range, though they do have seasonal weather, which is often dictated on a few geographical factors for this particular continent: prevailing eastern winds, their oceanic environment, and the glacial mountains from the north.
For the colonists, it would be some adventure to unlock the mysteries of the planet, meet the planet natives and immigrated species, and finding their place in this whole new world.
