Zahir was walking into the dining. He was devastatingly hungry, his stomach growling strongly. In his hands was a try of his first meal and drink. The smells from the tray seemed quite fresh, he was just in line to pick up his dinner just like the others, the steam and heat from the food was visually stimulating. As he looked into the dining hall, it seemed like seating was already at capacity, all the colonists were sitting and eating, talking to each other and laughing. Zahir felt quite shy and didn't want to interrupt and indulge himself into an already compact table. Not really caring about his placement, he decided that he would eat on the floor, he plotted a spot by the large windows, overlooking the planet in which they had just settled on. He placed his tray on the floor and say Indian style with his legs crossed, fashioning himself like a stereotypical lotus positioned manner. As he used his utensils, the fork and a spoon, he looked on his plate. There was some sort of stuffy meat, he senses told him it was an Earthly meat called beef, from a farm animal called a cow. His memory told him that his family heritage of the Hindu religion told him that beef consumption was against his religion. But who really cared at this point, he was human and he was hungry. As he sliced the beef and forked into his mouth, he began chewing it, it had a savory flavor and a hint of spice. He began to swallow, combating his hunger in the making.

Jen slipped into the dining hall, stepping through the line quickly, grabbing nothing but an apple, before moving to her fellow grunts; her jar-heads. She clasped a few on the shoulder, as she smiled at the jokes they made to each other, giving them a few instructions for workouts she thought that would be great for her men and women. Head turned to the window, catching sight of the guy on the floor. Palm gave one of her men a slam on the back, before she moved over to where the guy was. She squatted down, dropping to her butt, as she asked, "Whatcha doing down here, mate? You one of the biologists, right?"

As he was eating or trying to eat, he began to think about his day ahead. He would go to the laboratory and setup the lab for the main scientists. He then began thinking about spending some time to do research at the The Collection. He then thought about checking out some handheld mechanical tools from the Supply Depot. Boy, he was totally excited, he had a big day ahead of him. He heard the military people as they began to get rowdy, here we go again... As someone with a high intellectual spirit, Zahir looked down at the jarheads, they were pretty much all muscle and no substance in his mind, but somehow they controlled the hierarchy of the colony.
What the heck? What did I do wrong? Zahir was a little puzzled, sure he was going against the tide by not seating with the others at the tables, but he was pretty much minding his own business. He put the the utencils and looked at the menacing Military Commander.
"Yes, ma'am, I am one of the biologists -- how may I help you??" he said sarcastically as he scratched his chin, he was kind of annoyed that he would be disturbed as he was experiencing of having an appetite for the very first time.

Jennifer observed the scene that the biologist was looking at, admiring the fact that it looked so different, but similar to, earth, or the implanted images she had of it. She hadn't sensed the hostility, maybe that sense was reserved for enemies, but she answered, "I saw you sitting over here, and was wondering what's wrong. It can't be too comfy down here." She showed the boy a smile of pearly whites, before she turned her head, looking to her soldiers, adding, "They would certainly budge up a little for you."
She thought differently, seeing herself and her soldiers as more lesser important groups. The eggheads were the real stars. The colony wouldn't be possible if they didn't check the planet. But, the militaristic group was there to keep the colony safe from dangers. Jen summarized that if the groups could work together, success would be possible.

There was some sort of calmness coming from Jennifer, he could not quite point it out very well, but it did seem like she was genuine. His intellect told him to tread carefully, she may have her own interior motives, she is the one with the weapons anyways, the biologist could be easily blown up under her command. Just keep it safe Zahir, he told himself. The little she knew about him, the better. "Well, my conscious tells me that adaptation is essential to human survival. So what if there's no comfy table, I'll survive." he said firmly. Truly, anyone with a brain would budge for her, she had the guns -- she had some fine guns.
"Out there? Of course I am!" he said, whimpering on. Little did she know that this Biologist Assistant had gone out into the wilderness by himself, well, he only took a few steps out of the ship for a few minutes before heading back. He knew that had she found out that he had been outside, he could be getting some sort of jail sentence or something. So he just nodded, trying to look normal in the face of making his first ever white lie.

Jennifer Smith gave a grin to the scientist, nodding her head in agreement. An ideal that she and her people had been trained to do; live without comfort. Being here at the ship right now, it was comfy, but Jen knew they'd have to leave it to do their job. "Good spirit, man," she spoke, before adding, "well you definitely will have plenty comfy tables when we're all doing our thing."

"Your thing? What do you think I am, a loner?" he said back quickly in a clam tone. He felt offended by her statement. Did she just assume that he would was going to just do science experiments inside the colony?
"You know, I do want to explore the outer boundaries a well. In fact, I may have interest to accompany your team if and when you go outdoors. There are an infinite amount of atmospheric conditions that we do not know, it would be a benefit for you and your team to add some brains to your brigade." Zahir could not believe what he just said, but he was putting a face to smarts of this colony. He and his science freaks would never want to be stepped on.

Jenny pursed her lips, mulling his words in her head. Tactics wise, he had an point. Adding his smarts to the group, would add a level of success to the mission. Personally though, she didn't want to put him in danger, and there could be a lot of unforseen variables. Jen let out a sigh, before she said, "You have a point, I just, worry. If you can go out with us, you have to promise me you'll obey my orders. I worry about my people, but I know they can handle dangerous situations-- we were trained for it. You on the other hand, were trained to deal with the scientic matters."
The commander watched the biologist intently, before another smile cracked through, as she added, "you would definitely add to our survival rate."

Perplexed, the assistant scientist thought that he would have gotten into some sort of trouble for creating verbal sparks against a military official. Why would she side with him that easily? Something did not feel right at all. Even though these military personnel were suppose to protect the folks of the Hyperion colony, Zahir pondered whether or not these people could do good with all their weaponry in their hands. These soldier could be creating more havoc than tranquility.
But he decided that we would not speak up, and just simply smiled and nodded, hoping that the commander would just leave him alone and finish eating.

Jennifer Smith watched the scientist, receiving no reply, which made her uneasy. Hand lifted to the guy's shoulder, giving hi a squeeze, before Jen pulled back, and pushed herself to her feet. "See you later than," she said, before she walked to her soldiers' and called, "Boys and girls, don't fill yourselves up! I expect you all to stay fit!" With a health hrrah of a reply, Jennifer made her way from the cafeteria.

Zahir giggled lightly, he was sort of amused that the Military Commander just simply walked away. Operation 'Leave Zahir in Peace' had worked. He didn't like how bossy the blonde lady was to her people, it was as if she owned all of them. "You know, you could speak to your people in a more pleasant manner. We're not in bootcamp anymore!" he yelled back confidently.

Jenny paused, at that moment, and turned around. She smiled at the scientist, before she called back to him, "That's not your call you make, Mister Nayyar, and my people can take it," she spoke, then turned slightly toward the table to grunts, "Right?" The men and woman would most likely start making synchronized calls of 'hoorah,' before she looked to the scientist again, as she added, "See?"

"Well, if speaking to your colleagues by command is your way for civil obedience, then let it be.." he said, "..but I do not agree with the level of communication that you have set upon them. They sound like animals, only living to keep their owner happy. Where is the humanity in all of that? You must be ashamed of yourself!" he set off with full force.

Jennifer raised a brow at the scientist, before sizing up her crew, before giving him a shrug. "Oh, I see, you're one of those uptight assholes who think we're all a bunch of-- apes," she let slip, before she stopped, and took a breath. Asshole? Where did she hear of this word? It wouldn't have been in her training. Jenny grunted, before she spun her heels, as she said, "I have work to be doing, instead of listening to this garbage." Jen marched away, stomping from the cafeteria.

"I knew it" he said, "..you're one of those typical army brats who thinks they are above everyone else.." he continued, he did not exactly know where he got that opinion, it was as if it was just simply programmed within his memory to have that sort of perspective. He crossed his hands, gathering his thoughts and began to chatter again, "...you know what? Good luck with whatever you do." he concluded. Looking down at his food tray, he realized he was not at all hungry anymore. He saw the stares that the military professionals gave him, looking at him as if was some sort of idiot. "You know, you don't have to follow whatever she says, she's not really the boss of you all, she just thinks she is." he said. They continued to stare at him with an expression of disbelief. Zahir did not want to be some of hooligan responsible for an uprising, his job was to help the folks at the science labs, not create some sort of political activity. With that, he walked briskly with his head down towards the hallway, he was late for his appointment with the other biologists.
