The awakening had been sudden. Alarms were going off left and right. Amelia's head was pounding.. or was it heart that was pounding so loud she could feel it in her head? She wasn't sure but she had reached the command center as quickly as she could. Dressed in jeans and tank top she reached her console at the command center and touched the screen to try and wake it. When it didn't come to life right away she pressed it again. Five more seconds and it still wasn't running so she did what felt right. The bottom of Amelia's fist bashed the side one good time and immediately the system chimed and stirred to life. It illuminated her face as her labored breathing rushed over the glass screen. She had run from her room to the command center.. quite a distance but this was an emergency.
Her fingers were quicker than she could think as programs came to life, and she felt almost like it was unnatural how quick her hands were and how her mind knew exactly what to do. The beep of the EOS sent her mind back to work and not on herself and a furrow quickly formed on the woman's tan skin as her dark brown eyes stared at the screen. "What? No.. No! This can't be!" she whispered, typing faster and moving her fingers over the screen before she rose to her feet.
"EOS I need that screen up on the display." she called out, in front of her across the glass it displayed the stars that would be above them in the sky. There were still alarms going off behind her but she couldn't even hear them now as she gazed at the display. "How... how are we.. so far off course?" she whispered in disbelief as she stood.. shocked.
