It was as if she were swimming in an ocean of night, for as long as she could remember she had been floating endlessly in this sea of black, but for some unknown reason, Riley no longer wanted to be the plaything of unconsciousness. She had begun to wake up. She had become aware of very few things at first, brief snatches of light in the darkness, that prickly feeling one get's when one's foot falls asleep, and the strangest craving for something...something wonderful, but she just couldn't remember what it was! It was that deep seated curiosity that had finally dragged Riley to the world of consciousness, she had to find out what it was that she wanted so badly and she wasn't going to find it asleep.
When her eyes opened, she blinked a few times, not recognizing what she was seeing, this place was so different from the world of darkness she had become so used too, this one was still dark, but she could see shapes within the darkness, weird oblong shapes that she didn't recognize. Riley stared in confusion at one of the items, a blurred ting with two holes in it and arms coming from the sides of the holes, and as she stared, the knowledge that was programmed into her at such a young age began to leak through. Those strange looking things were glasses and glasses were used to see things clearly. The glasses were sitting on a shelf, and the shelf was built into the wall, all that Riley could understand, what she didn't understand was that she still couldn't see clearly, everything was still a blur, weren't those glasses supposed to make everything clear? Then she remembered you had to be wearing them to see...Riley felt like an 'idiot', she thought the word was, the stupidity she felt had her facial muscles moving upward into a smile, something that felt weird and alien on her face, but felt pleasant all the same. She moved forward, slowly remembering how to walk, how to control her body's movements, a soft cry of triumph escaped her mouth when she finally reached the shelf holding her glasses. It took her a few moments to actually remember how to grab the blasted things, but once she did she felt another smile curling her lips. She got them on without gouging out her eye so Riley counted that as another small victory, she could feel the movements coming more easily, more naturally to her stiff body and turned around to explore more of the strange room she found herself in.
Only, she miscalculated, her body remembered the movements, but it didn't remember that Riley was clumsy, tragically so. The swift movement of her body didn't register with her feet and she ended up tripping over the awkward appendages. AS she fell to the ground, a startling loud noise echoed through out the room, Riley dimly registered that it was she that made the rather frightening sound. Barely getting her arms up to block impact, Riley received a nasty bump on the head, she also bit her tongue, which she knew would make speaking rather difficult, she only hoped that no one had heard her embarrassing reawakening into the real world...
