It was night by the time Zakry reached back to the Hyperion. Lien's body dangeled from his arms in her unconscious state and people stared as he rushed to the medical bay. She was sweating, a high fever apparent and her pulse was racing beneath her flesh. Her right ankle was a bit swollen from being twisted, the left leg had a pulled muscle and she had a few bruises here and there but the worst part was her right hand. The slivers of tree bark had buried themselves into her flesh and now the flesh around the splinters was puffy and tender. It was clear they would need to be removed immediately to check for what foreign agents could be at work in her system.

Zakry bursted through the doors of the medical yelling for the aid of Dr. Jordan McKinley or Althaia Rahael, his run in with Lian was one he did not expect to enjoy so much. Despite the drastic end, His voice echoed throughout the ship in an anger yelling for assistance with the small girl. She looked almost pale to him, covered in his bloody hand prints he waited impatiently for assistance, someone had to be around and he needed them now. Not for his sake but for the sake of the girl he was so close to now, the girl whom didn't want to try and kill him at first glance.

Dr McKinley turned to look at the commotion coming from down the hall. Add since he was currently standing in the middle of a moderately busy ER, it had to be quite the commotion indeed. But what caught his attention most was hearing a panicked voice yelling his name. He threw his stethoscope around his neck, adjusted his lab coat, and made his way towards the voice. As he rounded the corner he saw the source of the noise. A man was carrying an unconscious woman into the medical center. But as Jordan neared them, his heart dropped. The unconscious woman was Lian, who he had helped the night she had woken from cryosleep. The same girl that had been keeping him honest about watching his nutrition. The first word he could muster was ”Shit.”
”Nurse.” He grabbed the closest nurse and started barking orders. ”Get her into room 7, I think it’s open. Start an IV and get me a set of vitals. Pull a full blood screen. Metabolic panel, blood count, drug screen, type and cross, and blood culture to start. Get a sample of any drainage from her hand. Also run an EKG.” The nurse ran off to get started as more staff came and took Lian from the man and moved her into the room. Dr McKinley then turned to the man.
”I’m Dr Jordan McKinley. Please, tell me what happened here.”

Lian's body was moved to the medical room quickly, and she was hooked up to many different machines. Her pulse was fast and the nurses quickly started to crack ice compresses and put them around her body to bring her temperature down. Another nurse moved to start taking samples from her hand and still the young girl didn't stir as they got to work taking samples from various parts of her.
Somewhere in her dreams she was crying, the darkness was all around her as the only beam of light was just behind her and illuminating everything around her in such an eerie way. The silence was absolute and she tried to call out but the darkness seemed to only make her small voice seem so much more lost. It wasn't even her voice, but a smaller voice almost like a child's would have been. There was no echo... and no response to her cry. The darkness ebbed closer, claws of pure void reaching to grab at her. Terrified she could nothing else but turn and curl up against a hard surface, clinging to little bit of light.

Zakry straightened up, glad there was a doctor to help in the emergency. "Zakry Krowe, Scout Marksman." Out of instinct he began his military protocol, his mind reacting as if he was talking to a superior, Zakry adjusted his rifle on his back keeping it out of anything that appeared too clean. He was covered in dirt and still bleeding from his hands.
"I followed the small footsteps which were the small females. When I discovered her, she appeared lost and attempted to find her way home with string. What she thought was her string ended up being a mutated boar, which charged almost instantly upon discovery. In the purpose of science we attempted to carry the boar back to the ship for testing, the process of carrying it did not work as it was suppose to. I fell into a small hole in which I believe the boar followed me down, I was instructed to remove any clothing that had blood on it. Which is why I stand before you shirtless, Sir. After climbing my way out of the hole, I discovered that the Civilian was injured in which she collapsed before me. I immediately carried her here."
Zakry stood looking at the doctor his voice was calm as he spoke each word almost as if he was writing a report on what had happened. He didn't once mention Lian's name or even hint as to how much he had become to care for her in the time they spent together. As a soldier she could be an unnecessary lost due to the planets harsh lifestyle, but as a developing boy she was his first crush and possibly his last.

Dr McKinley listened intently as Zakry gave him a quick rundown of the situation. ”Very good. Thank you.” he said before turning to another nurse. ”Take Mr Krowe to room 8. Drawn baseline labs, start an IV and get a detailed rundown of everything that he and Ms Zhang have been in contact with.” He then turned back to Zakry. ”If you would please follow her, I will be in shortly. I have to make sure Ms Zhang is stabilized.” Jordan turn without waiting for an answer and entered Lian’s room.
As he walked in, the nurse gave him a rundown of Lian’s condition. Low blood pressure, elevated heart rate, temperature of 105.2 F. The lab results where not pretty. Her blood count was horrible and her metabolic panel was abnormal. ”Start normal saline and get two units of blood ready to transfuse.” He walked over to Lian and leaned down close to her head. ”Lian. Can you hear me?” As he spoke he pulled a small pen light out of his pocket. He lifted her eyelid and shined the light into her eye. Her pupils did not react and remained dilated. He stood up, releasing her eyelid and made his way to her abdomen. ”Get a drug screen too. I want to see if she came in contact with something out there.” He lifted her shirt and looked her torso over noting the multiple bruises and cuts. Other than that, he couldn’t see any immediate issues. He lowered her shirt back and moved down to her legs. ”Chest x-ray.” he said as he took a look at her legs and ankles. He touched softly around the swollen ankle and then the non swollen. Neither had any obvious signs of a break, but he had to be sure. ”And x-rays of both lower extremities as well.” He stepped back from the table to speak to one of the nurses in the room. ”Get the foreign bodies out of her hand and send them to the lab for testing. As soon as the blood has transfused start some broad spectrum antibiotics. Once the blood cultures are back we can change it. Let me know if anything pops up. I’ll be back shortly.”
With that he left Lian’s room and entered Zakry’s room next door. ”Ok. Tell me how you feel. Do you hurt anywhere?”

A voice echoed in the darkness... she couldn't make out what it said as she lifted her head and looked about the darkness. "Bàba!" she called out to the darkness but then.. there was no one there again. Alone with nothing but darkness.
As the nurses snapped to and started to draw blood her body just laid there for them, unconscious to the world. The blood samples revealed toxins entering her blood stream from where the bark had entered her skin. She had been so very careful of the boar that she had not even considered that the wood they had been carrying might of had poison in it. Her ankle was not broken but she had sprained it pretty nicely. A few nurses moved to her right hand, having to use a large magnifying glass to pull the larger splinters from the young woman's hand. Once out there were able to take the samples to the lab to see what exactly it was and maybe how they might counter act the poison within her.

Zakry followed the woman silently and sat on the table, his face straight and bland. He looked at the IV entering his system. He waited patiently for the doctor to enter the room ignoring any questions or words the nurse may of said. His mind was in interrogation mode ignoring anything until the doctor entered the room and spoke, "I'm fine, how is the girl?" He looked at his hands covered in blood and dirt, "I may of cut my hands, I cannot recall where that may of happened though. Sorry Doc."

”We’re working to get her stabilized.” He pulled up Zakry’s chart on his tablet and looked through the vitals and labs. ”Well, your labs look ok. Your vitals are elevated, but that is to be expected.” He walked over next to Zakry and took his stethoscope from around his neck. ”I’m just going to listen to you real quick.” He put the stethoscope on Zakry’s chest and listened. ”Deep breath for me…and out.” He then moved the stethoscope to the next spot and repeated until he was finished. He put his stethoscope around his neck once more and pulled out his tablet. He started making selections and adding to Zakry’s chart. When he was finished, he looked back at Zakry.
”Lian has some minor injuries. But, as you know, she is unresponsive. We are running tests to find out why. Being on this new planet, there are a lot of unknowns about the animal and plant life. So, we may have a hard time figuring out what did this and how to stop it. I’ll let you know if there are any changes. For now, we need to clean your hands and bandage them.” He gave Zakry and pat on the shoulder and walked to the other side of the room to let the nurses do their job. He looked down at his tablet and continued charting.

Zakry sat on the bed in a deep thought, he wasn't sure what he was going to do and then his military protocol once again took over. He was no longer thinking about Lian instead he was going to get patched up. He laid down on the bed and stared at the ceiling, "Wake me when I can go." he looked around then closed his eyes, he was a soldier; civilians would be a common casualty in this war and he needed to be ready to take the loss. His training may of not been complete but history will always repeat itself in every way. Unless you can learn from it and prevent such actions.

He completed his charting and turned towards the door. He walked into the hallway and stopped outside of Lian’s room. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath in, holding it for a few seconds, and then slowly let it out. It was tough seeing Lian in the state that she was in, but he needed to get back in there and see how she had progressed. He opened his eyes and strode into the room. He made his way over to the large screen on the wall and pulled up her X-ray results. He was pleased to see that nothing major was showing up on them. He closed the X-rays and pulled up vital signs next. These were not as reassuring. There had been some improvement, but not much. Unfortunately, he had to wait on the toxicology reports to get back and for the blood to transfuse before he could do anything further.
Jordan cleared the screen and walked over to Lian. He reached over and pulled a stool to him and sat down at the head of her bed. He gently set his hand on her shoulder and leaned in close.
”Ms Zhang….” He paused slightly. ”Lian. It’s Jordan. Can you hear me? I’m going to get you through this. I promise,”

It took the entire first day just to get the poor young woman's fever down, and surgery to get every splinter out of her flesh. The pieces of wood had been toxic and had made the flesh swell. Some were worried the girl was in a coma due to the shock of the violent toxins but upon the third day of her admittance there she started to come around. Her dark magenta eyes slowly opened and closed to adjust to the brightness of the doctor's office. Still... something about the light around her was so relieving and she couldn't exactly place why. The room was slightly chilled on her face but her body was warm from the blanket that had been placed over her by a nurse.
She felt funny too... like she was floating on a cloud. She didn't know it was from the drugs hooked to her arm through the IV bag so she slowly turned her head to start looking around. She was having a problem remembering where she was... or why she was here. Carefully her right hand lifted and she was going to push the blanket away but she saw the bandaging and sat straight up, gazing down at it. Nurses around her stirred, one headed quickly off to find Doctor McKinley as the young girl stared dumbfounded at the bandaging and the needle in her arm. Slowly little slivers of memory started to come back to her... about the wild boar and about Zakry. Still she was hazy and she didn't notice she was swaying as she sat there in the hospital bed, yet another affect of the drugs from the IV bag.
