A problem had developed but the crew hadn’t been awoken yet as the ship attempted to adjust itself. During the fall however, the computer began preparations to awaken the crew so that they could start living their lives here on this unknown planet. The computer knew this wasn’t the planet but something was causing it to crash into this inhabited world that was luckily able to support the human life in the ship. The most the ship could do was level out and slow down sparing the life of the crew and keeping some of the power on, but the ship itself was now grounded and would need repairs for it to ever fly again. Then the crew started awakening from their cryogenic sleep.
The lessons spilled into the frozen man’s mind. He had been here for years, growing and slowly shaping into what he was born and engineered to one day do. The sounds of sirens and red lights illuminated his tank as the automated warning system blared out over the comms. The sirens awoke a very annoyed Edik. He was numb all over and felt like he was very uncoordinated. He started to blink heavily and then he caught his breath and it was as if life was just given to him. He fell against his pod glass and noticed a small crack in it. A few seconds later all his senses awoke and he was no longer numb. He could feel everything on his body and noticed there was something warm on his cheek. He placed his hand against it and felt some sort of liquid. When he moved his hand he realized he had been cut at some point and the liquid on his fingers was blood. He tried to open his container but it refused to budge. He pushed as hard as he could, but he expected that it was malfunctioning and now he had to break out somehow.
“I need to get out and ensure everyone else is safe. I have to secure the perimeter and I have to...What am I saying? How do I know all of this? I just need to get OUT,” Edik yelled as he grabbed the bars above his head and used them to swing his body into a massive kick to the glass. It shattered with little resistance. He then realized the cold wasn't affecting him as it seemed to almost suit him. He felt comfortable in it as he moved through the broken glass door and turned around to look at his home of several years. Edik took a step out and looked at the name plate on his container. His eyes had a hard time focusing on the dark plate with the constant annoyance of the red light nearby. He used his hand to shield his eyes when he realized he had cut his arm while exiting his container.
“Staff Sergeant Edik Demidov, Russian, Soldier, Weapons Specialist,” Edik read aloud as his eyes grew accustomed to the light. He raised his eyebrows at the Weapons Specialist part. Did that mean what he thought it did? He looked down at the shattered glass on the ground. Immediately he took off his thin white shirt, and ripped two long pieces off. He reached down and selected four sharp glass shards. he placed two of them together and used one of the long strips of cloth to tie a hilt in the middle so that he could use them as a weapon. He did this for the other two shards he selected and wrapped the cut on his arm with the rest of his shirt. He picked up his two makeshift knives and started looking around. He didn’t waste time reading the names on the plates as he looked to see if anyone else was awake. He couldn’t find anyone immediately, but he did find and activate a computer terminal after leaving his room with three others and entered a common area that held off-shoots to other rooms. He could tell the power was low as the monitor was on the fritz but still active.
“Computer what is going on?”
“Zdravstvuyte serzhant Demidov . Ya virtual'nym intellektom korablya. Mogu li ya napravit' vas na vooruzheniye ?”
“Computer speak English.”
“Vash zapros byl ne ponyal. Po pros'be generala Nikolaya Aleksandr Demidov etogo komp'yutera, chtoby tol'ko govorit' s vami na russkom serzhant.”
“Eto chertovski glupo. No ya razberus' s etim . Napravit' menya v Oruzheynuyu palatu i soobshchit' mne o tekushchey razbudil nomera i lyubuyu neizvestnyye formy zhizni na bortu sudna komp'yutera.”
“Da serzhant. Sleduyte migayushchiy krasnyy svet i to, chto vy byli proinstruktirovany v to vremya kak v Anabioz . Vy znayete, gdeOruzheynoy kak , a dlya probuzhdennykh nomera v nastoyashcheye vremya ... OSHIBKA OSHIBKA datchikov foruma ne v sostoyanii opredelit' tekushchiye razbudil chisel. Podtverzhdeniye net neizvestnyye formy zhizni na bortu sudna.”
He needed this damn thing to speak in English. Maybe he’d talk to the Computer Specialist or just start cutting wires until it spoke English. Yeah cutting random wires, that might work just fine. Suddenly, he heard something behind him and turned around ready to defend himself and the ship. But, from the sound of it, it was only one of the cyrostasis beds opening, it seemed it wasn’t alone anymore as the door to one of the rooms opened up.
Translations in order:
“Sergeant Demidov. I am the ship's Virtual Intelligence. May I direct you to the armory?”
“Your request was not understood. By request of General Nikolai Alexander Demidov this computer is to only speak to you in Russian Sergeant.”
“That's fucking stupid. But I'll deal with it. Direct me to the Armory and inform me of current awakened numbers and any unknown life forms aboard the ship computer.”
“Yes Sergeant. Follow the blinking red lights and what you were instructed in while in Cryostasis. You know where the Armory as, as for the awakened numbers there are currently...ERROR ERROR sensors offline unable to determine current awakened numbers. Confirmation of no unknown life forms aboard vessel.
