Charli wandered the ship, alone and without real purpose. Her mind mulled over the instant action she had taken upon being woken. There hadn't been thought involved. She had seen the opportunity to bug the command centre of the ship and she had taken it, without a moment of hesitation. She didn't doubt that she had done the right thing. She knew that. But where did that knowledge come from? Surely it wasn't a part of her programming. That would be counter productive. If they had wanted her in command, they could have just made her Captain.
A nagging feeling in the back of her mind told her that she should have been made Captain. She hadn't met the man yet, but she knew on some level that she was better than him. She was better qualified (or at least she would be if she'd had his programming), stronger and a better leader. she didn't need the bug to tell her that. Anything that little boy could do, she could do better. She was ready to prove that as well. Charli couldn't wait to meet the Captain so that she could show him exactly who he was up against. She wasn't going to let some kid walk all over her.
Her feet led her to the Library. The Collection, her mind told her. Tired of walking, she opened the door carefully and glanced inside. It seemed to be empty. She eased through the door and let it shut behind her, with an ominous sound of finality. It was the first time she had felt truly alone since waking up. The sense of urgency she had felt seemed to ease. She settled herself down on a comfortable lounge chair, and laid her head back against the headrest. Her eyes closed and she breathed a tiny sigh of relief. Tension seemed to drip from her body and mind until she felt something one might actually call relaxation.
