The wind twisted through the empty plains, circular wind patterns pierced through the open grass. The setting sun was half an hour from disappearing and revealing the many moons of the world. Ri'do questioned often of which moon was his to pray to, which goddess was his to worship. He was exiled and he was to be stripped of his moon goddess, and he accepted that but it was hard for him to accept that he could no longer pray to the Goddess of Life. He walked up to the lone dying tree in the field, branches were falling large sections at a time.
Ri'do kneeled down before the tree, unsheathing his sword and impaling it into the dirt. He began to pray to the God of Death, the only god who would listen to him since his exile. He murmured words in a silent hymn looking for answers from the god, he would seek revenge on those who put him on the small island binding him to a life of loneliness. But something would change his world forever, a strong companion who would calm his aggressive passion. He sat in silence listening to the wind blow, waiting for the heavy steps of the creature.
As the day slowly turned into night, there came a calming sense of surrender, as the setting of the sunset began to creep into the fabric of time. Kabukk felt the remnant heat coming from the passing sun, soaking in the last moments of warmth as the evening came to being. He began to see the moons once again, crowding the skies with their majestic size. He was once again he was alone for another night, there came many nights where he would ponder his past relationship with father, mother, brother and sister. He wondered if they were still looking at the same moons as he was looking at, hoping that he would see them once again.
With the distance of time, he began to have a hard time picturing what his family looked like, this realization began to worry him. The lost of memories provided a sense of anxiety that began to increase with each passing day. There were many a time when he thought that he would be at simply be at peace and end his life, then there were times where he would gain the right ounce of confidence to continue on -- realizing that he would want to return home some day. These drastic spectrum of emotions began to damage the mental state of the creature, who had lost himself and was drowning in loneliness. But on this day, he would be lonely no more. He began walking in the fields, looking for a tree big enough for him to sleep on for the night.
Ri'do's ears perked up as he heard the familiar thundering footsteps of his newest kin, they had been together for as long as he can remember his time on the island. They had a strong trust with one another and he was his large conscience which constantly kept him in check. He couldn't help but listen to the creature when he spoke, his deep words were enticing and resonated in his mind for a long time.
"I hear you friend," Ri'do spoke softly to keep his voice from startling the midnight moons. "You walk heavy on this night. Are you alright?" Ri'do kept his head down and listened calmly for the voice to project back at him.
As he walked closer, he heard a familiar voice -- an ally that he had made on his time on the island. The close acquaintance was someone that he trusted, within the island of marvelous beasts, one could never put their trust in others -- but this feline was different from the other living creatures. Whether big or small, the living creatures all have their motives of survival. In a social setting Kabukk has been careful trust his instincts, but the feline had given him many reasons for comfort. In the past, they have helped each other and provided support in times of need. Kabukk appreciated the help that he had gotten, Ri'do was the closest thing he had to a family.
"Nice to see someone so peaceful within this land, " he said in a calming voice. "..my mind has not been at ease." he stated as he tilted his head and yawned into the moons.
((I missed the perfect time to squeeze in a pun.))
Ri'do stared at the large Shorchitt, he must've been nearly seven feet tall which was far larger than Ri'do was. He found it soothing that his kin was his polar opposite, if there ever a task he would be unable to complete he could be assured that Kabukk would be physically capable. Ri'do always worried about the creatures mental status, unlike himself Kabukk had a family which meant he had ties to others. Ri'do never found himself in that situation, he was orphaned and grew up with other strong capable warriors.
"What troubles you?" Ri'do was concerned for Kabukk he was much like the earthern crab, he had a strong looking outter shell but it was easily cracked. "The Goddess of love smiles upon us tonight," In an attempt to distract Kabukk from his fears, Ri'do lifted his head to stare at the smallest moon which was in full. "It is the God of Death we must worry about," Ri'do's head shifted to the largest moon, "He is barely visible tonight, alwayzs scheming something.."
Unlike Ri'do, Kabukk was not as spiritual. He was raised up to look at the practicalities of life rather than looking up into the sky. Though, within his new life on the island, he had gained a certain dependence on nature and the idea of outside forces regulating and dictating the lands. Looking down at his friend, he replied: "I have forgotten of a time before this, I have forgotten how long it has been. I have forgotten my old life. Forgotten has become part of me." he said with a chill in his voice. It had been a long time and the longevity of his separation had taken a toll on him.
He went down and kneeled by the feline with a tear about to run down from his left eye. Kabukk found serenity from Ri'do, who seemed very close to the forces around him.
Ri'do listened to the cold saddened voice of Kabukk, "Kin..." Ri'do paused to look at the second largest moon. "The God of Wisdom is always working at something, Someday his knowledge may come to you in an enlightening way. He shall direct you to where you need to go." Sometimes Ri'do believed his own words, and with this statement he could only hope for them to be true.
He stood up, slowly as to not cut Kabukk with his sword. He looked at the dark silver blade, it was no longer apart of its true beauty. The blade required a special rock for sharpening and cleaning one in which this island lacked. "Kin, do you remember our first meeting? How angry I was, my rage only seemed to grow, do you remember that day?"
As Kabukk listened, he looked up in the skies and pondered for a bit. Ri'do was right, there would be an eventual answer to his lonesome feelings, but the bear must reserve an amount of patience; Kabukk hoped that his patience will one day be rewarded with a blessing from above, that time will eventually guide him to where he needs to be. As Ri'do moved and uncovered his sword, Kabukk recognized the weaponry item set before him, how dangerous and threatening the item was on their first encounter.
"Yes, our encounter was one of intrigue, I remember that you took care of me in my time of need," he said bowing his head down in reverence. "I was in trouble, you gave me hope." he continued.
((If you want to reply to the top half go for it, I probably won't reply to it until the end of the Flashback))
Ri'do nodded at Kabukk, "I remember that day differently my Friend, Although we did bond quickly; Thank the Gods," Ri'do stared at the moons once again, then turned his head to the large Shorchitt. "I was not clear minded on that day, perhaps if I was we would of never become so close." Ri'do thought on that day as he stared into the endless fields...
TWO MOON CYCLES EARLIER....
Ri'do stood in anger sword clutched in his hand, the storm blew winds that would of knocked him over had his clawed feet not been inches in the ground. The wind ripped at his dirty fur, from a far he would of appeared to be made of sand. He was exiled on the island for a full cycle now, and the gods were punishing him for living for so long. His anger was all that kept him going, his deep thirst for revenge giving him energy to continue to try to escape from the island.
His loud roar fought against the thunder to be heard, he was thirsty for blood and no creature here was capable of stopping him he need an unbreakable wall for his unstoppable force of anger. The rain struck hard against him, it was not a normal storm and had Ri'do's mind been clear he would of taken it as a sign of an incredible strength coming to his land. Something he would best steer clear of, but in his anger filled mind he forgot about the gods and could only challenge them.
Their first encounter was one of intrigue. As Ri'do talked, Kabukk began to remember the day as if it were yesterday, his memory of what had happened was crystal.
There had been a storm, one that seemed to have gone for many suns. Kabukk had been on the island for just a few days, still mourning the deaths of many on the peacekeeping ship that he was a part of. As he had the hearts of the departed crewmembers on his mind, he was still stabilizing within his new surroundings, suffering from broke bones and bruises along the sides of his body. He laid on the beach, as the sand was embracing his fur. He was in a land that was so different from his home, this particular storm seemed like a bad omen, and unwelcome message perhaps. His heart beat slowly, his mind was drifting apart, he had no real reason to live. He had planned to sacrifice his body for the Gods. As he laid there, he felt a being before him, someone with unreliable emotions of angst -- perhaps a personification of the storm?
Ri'do's claws expanded from his paws as he opened his hand, roaring continuing to yell at the gods who were prepared to create a tsunami to attempt to kill him. He swung his blade with one hand at the small trees that ripped from the ground that were set at him, slicing them in half with little effort he proved he was willing to live to those who looked down upon him. "YOU CANNOT KILL ME!" and without word the ground began to pick up from under him. Ri'do jumped back and realized that the trees were beginning to spin around one another, a tornado in the middle of the storm. He saw one option from this fight and it was one he was never happy to do, He would have to run...
Ri'do ran quickly from the storm heading into the heavily thick forest. Until he tripped over a scrawny Shorchitt who was laying across the ground, Ri'do fell face first towards the ground but his nimble body let him turn the fall into a roll. After rolling across the ground, he turned and held his blade in an offensive position until he saw the bear. His anger quickly turned into pity, the creature had given up and that was unusual for their species. He stared at him waiting for it to speak.
As the debris of leaves and dust poured onto his body, he let out a roar out the spirit world, letting them know that he was about to past to their world. "Let peace be with me" he told the creature. The bear had saw the creature of orange and black jumping over him with great speed. He saw the shiny sword, the blade of sharp edges, would this be the end of him? Kabukk did not care less at this point, nature could have him. He looked into the eyes of the feline and talked slowly, "..Sacrifice my life, my spirit shall reward you."
"You fool! Ri'do yelled at the creature over the storm, "Your spirit is only as strong as your will, and your will to die is worth nothing!" He looked around for any other possible threats but this bear was all that stood in front of him. A species of honor and respect and he had to meet the one who cared very little for his own life. "Come with me, if you wish to see your spirit dance among the gods," Ri'do put his sword away and reached his hand out. "Or stay if you wish your spirit to walk this plane forever." Ri'do would only give him a minute to decide before he would run for safety himself.
As the feline continued to speak, it dawned to the bear that there was some sense to the statements that the creature made. Although he was depressed and had lost much patience and understanding, Kabukk knew in his heart that his family would never have wanted him to give up on life. He did not want to kill hope, but the burden of being alone had taken a toll on him. Kabukk needed help and support, he felt that the feline was different from the rest, he could sense that the creature was one with truth and sense. The feline was right, he could not just give up so easily.
He grabbed the hand of the feline. As he grabbed his hand, a sink hole began to form beneath him, "HELP!" he roared out.
Ri'do grabbed the downed bear, and tightened his grip over the slim forearm of the creature. It had a slow pull on him, looking over the creature he realized he was sinking beneath the ground. The gods were truly angry at Ri'do and were trying to take the beast away from him, possibly accepting his earlier sacrifice. Ri'do released a roar as he pulled the Shorchitt away from the god's grip. "We must hurry, the gods are not happy with me." Ri'do looked at the creature, he was starved and thin for his large height. His strength would hopefully be enough to run from the winds into Ri'do's cave which did not lay far from here. "If you have the strength to live, you will have to keep up with me until we can get to safety..." Ri'do looked in the direction they would have to run, the brushes would only thicken until they reached safety.
